Jemma Palmer, from award winning bridal boutique Halo & Wren, has pieced together some essential advice. Have you just got engaged and have no idea where to start? Or are you finally ready to start wedding planning? Read the below advice from Jemma to help you out.
Firstly, buy a wedding magazine! It will become a keepsake. Immediately cancel all plans to see friends and family and spend your time planning your wedding! Joking aside, really enjoy being engaged, tell everyone, literally everyone. This is such a special time and you should enjoy every moment.
When the excitement has settled, Venue first; using blogs and recommendations and your own initiative to short list three to five venues to visit. You will get a ‘feel’ for is you and Venue really sets the visual feeling of how your day will be and look. Some venues are booked up two years ahead, so if you know somewhere you love book it soon (but make sure you have gone through the small print before parting with any money).
I would highly suggest booking your photographer next, again, the best seem to get booked way in advanced! I knew exactly who I wanted and even moved my wedding a day to make sure I could get my photographers.
And...finally the next step; obviously the most important step, wedding dress shopping. Around 10-12 months before the day, you need to start shopping and be ordering your dress 7-9 months before the big day.
Every bride is different but I think modern brides have it so good; the choice of gowns now is incredible! With a little research on Instagram you will find your vibe, visit the boutiques that are truly you! You do not need to visit 4,5,6 boutiques. 1-3 is enough, Bridal Boutiques are quite specific now in which type of bride they cater for.
A good Bridal Boutique will have strong branding on Instagram, Pinterest and their website allowing you to view them, their gowns and get a feel of the boutique. Google reviews from previous brides will tell you so much about a boutique (remember they were you once).
And again, enjoy! Being engaged is the next step in your lives together, don’t rush it or string it out; be in the moment.
